Step 1: Wash and condition your hair.

Wash and condition your hair. Then, prep your tresses with a volumizing product to give your roots a bit of lift before creating your braids. We love TIGI Copyright Custom Create Volume Lift Styling Spray for an easy dose of volume.

Step 2: Part your hair.

Part hair down the middle of your head with a rattail comb. Then secure each section into a low ponytail using a hair elastic.

Step 3: Braid your hair.

Braid the length of each ponytail, then fasten the ends with a hair elastic.

Step 4: Cross the braids.

Cross the left braid over the top of your head and secure in place with some bobby pins. Repeat the same step for the right, and tuck the ends of the braids into one another to create the illusion of just one chunky braid. Clip the hair elastics at the base of your braids to remove.

Step 5: Pancake your braids.

Gently pull your braid apart, a.k.a pancake, your braids to loosen and widen your crown. Then spritz your hair with TRESemmé Compressed Micro Mist Hairspray Extend Hold Level 4 to hold your look in place. And that’s it! Pair your Insta-worthy DIY crown with a sparkly dress to get the full royal effect!
