All About Double Cleansing Hair

Learn all about double cleansing below and see if it is the right technique for you:

What is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing, also known as double shampooing is the process of shampooing your hair twice during your hair care routine. This can be done with the same or different shampoo. If you have a sensitive scalp and have a product that you stick by, then you should cleanse with the same shampoo when double cleansing. However, if you have a bit more room to explore. Then we recommend starting with a cleanser that focuses on deep cleaning. For example TRESemmé Pro Collection Beauty-Full Strength Shampoo. Then, follow up with a cleanser that boosts hair nourishment. For example Suave Gentle Clean Pomegranate Shampoo.

How to Implement Double Cleansing into Your Routine

First shampoo your hair how you normally would. Remember that your first shampoo is for deep cleansing. It should remove all dirt, oil, and product build-up that has accumulated over the week. For an ultra-deep cleanse split your hair up into 2-4 sections. Washing your hair one section at a time gives you the leeway to target more strands of hair and prevents you from missing any spots. Then follow up with a nourishing shampoo that caters to your specific hair needs.

How do I know If Double Cleansing is Right for Me?

Double Cleansing is great for everyone especially if you space out your hair washes. Although there is not a specific hair type that requires a double cleanse, you should heavily consider implementing the technique into your routine if your hair falls under one of these categories: dandruff and low porosity hair. If you have dandruff, double cleansing will be beneficial in removing any extra flakes your scalp has built up throughout the week. For dandruff hair, when picking up a  second shampoo use BHS Full & Strong Anti-Dandruff Shampoo followed up by the BHS Full & Strong Anti-Dandruff Conditioner to help fight flakes over time. If you have low porosity hair, double cleansing can help moisture train your hair. Along with this, the more you explore different shampoos, you will learn what products are the most lathering and moisturizing for your hair. For low porosity hair, try natural hair shampoos such as Emerge It’s Knot Happening Sulfate-Free Shampoo followed by Emerge Smooth Mover Conditioner.

Will Double Cleansing Dry Out my Scalp and Hair?

Double cleansing should not dry out your scalp or your hair if done safely, properly, and efficiently. It is recommended that you double-cleanse your hair moderately. Some may suggest that double cleansing your hair too frequently can strip your hair of its natural oils. However, remember that you can regain moisture from shampooing when we use conditioners and through other hair care products that we use in between hair washes.  Additionally, double cleansing allows you to take more space gaps and spaces in between hair washes. Because you are shampooing twice and making sure that every layer of dirt is removed, your hair will stay clean for longer than with a standard wash. Not to mention this is a great way to save time and money on products for hair washes.  Following each double cleanse, using lightweight oils can also help to boost moisture and regulate a routine that can prevent dry scalp and dandruff.  Will you be trying double cleansing anytime soon?
