“K-I-S-S-I-N-G” Gotta love that childhood sing-song rhyme we all used to chant in elementary school! Who says we can’t say it once we grow up? Thanks to the talents of the darling Merrymint gals, they used this rhyme to help me turn the song Jamie & I danced to at our wedding… into gorgeous art!
It’s SO easy to make one for yourself! {This could also be an awesome anniversary gift, a meaningful Valentine’s Day gift, or the PERFECT gift for a wedding or bridal shower!} #1) SUPPLIES – gather up your supplies. You don’t need a whole lot to make this darling piece of art! Grab a pair of scissors, adhesive of some type {I recommend something like this – it will pop things up to make them look more 3-D}, an 8×10 frame, 4 sheets of white cardstock, a black pen, distressing ink {totally optional}, and some cute ribbon or baker’s twine. Other then that – you just need the printables. I have them linked up below in the steps where you will need them. #2) LYRICS – In Word, open up a new document and make sure it’s in “landscape” mode. Type up the lyrics to the song that has the most meaning to you & your spouse. If you can’t remember all of the words, you can Google it. I like to use this site to find mine but there are all sorts of websites out there that showcase song lyrics. Once you have your song typed up, it’s time to make it look FUN! You can bold the title, change different parts of the song to a different font, or even add color! Once you have it exactly the way you want it, copy the entire song and paste it over and over again in your document so the entire page is covered. {See example below.} If your song happens to be any of the following: Realize, Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, Hold My Hand, and You Raise Me Up…. then you are in LUCK! I happened to create this for my family members for Christmas. Here’s the PDF for those songs.
#4) PRINTING THE HEARTS & TAG – You will also want to print off our Printable Hearts {download at the bottom of this post. The has directions on it too.} And our Printable Tag {download also at the bottom of this post.} If you are giving this to your sweetheart or to a friend, you can hole-punch and attach the tag to the outside of your present. #5) CUT – Time to cut everything out! Cut out all four hearts, the tree, and the tag if you’d like. You can also cut two 12-inch pieces of ribbon/twine. You will probably be cutting that length down but it’s better to be safe then sorry. 🙂 Also cut out a piece of white cardstock to be the background for your art, you’ll want it to be sized 8×10 inches. If you want to change things up, you could also have a fun pattern for the background. I like the clean simplicity of a blank background, so I just used white. #6) INK – This step is completely optional. I LOVE to ink, so I rubbed a little bit of black scrapbooking ink on the outside of the tree and the hearts. I LOVE the fluid chalk kind. It’s super easy to hold in your hand. #7) WRITE – In your best handwriting, print your name on one of the smaller hearts and your sweetheart’s name on the other. OPTIONAL: You can also draw a tiny black heart on the tree… to look like a squirrel hole. 🙂 Below is an up close peek at what mine looks like once finished…
#8) ADHERE – Time to put the tree on!! I like to use the square adhesives, it makes the tree/heart pop off the page to make it look a little more interesting. Place them on the back of your tree and attach the tree to your background.
#9) HEARTS/TWINE – Before securing the twine, I placed the hearts where I wanted them. I then secured the bottom of the twine {this would be covered by the heart} to the background page and then tied the top on the tree limb. Trim the ribbon/twine down once it’s tied. When I was done, I adhered the larger hearts on top.
#11) THE LITTLE HEARTS – Put adhesive on the smaller hearts, and put them on the glass of the frame… on the OUTSIDE! Yeppers, we threw in a little twist there. 🙂 You can always put this part inside the frame if you want, but I LOVE the look of mine on the outside. Either way {inside or outside the frame}, I love how it looks when layering the hearts. It gives it a little border. #12) WRAP ‘ER UP – You are DONE! Wrap that bad boy up to give to your sweetie!
