Get the Look: Bubble Braid Pigtails on Afro Hair

Step 1:  Start with your natural hair out

Start with clean hair in its natural state. Generously distribute a styling cream such as Dove Amplified Textures Define N’ Moisture Styling Gel throughout the hair to help make styling easier while keeping your coils nourished.

Step 2: Split your hair into a middle part

Use a tail comb to assist in splitting your hair into a middle part. This will make it easier to form the bubble braid pigtails on both sides of your mane. If you experience dry scalp, then you should try Dove Amplified Textures Hydration Boost Scalp Tonic to help prevent irritation and dandruff while wearing this style.

Step 3: Form two afro-puff pigtails

After splitting your hair into a middle part, form two afro-puffs to act as a base for your bubble braid pigtails.

Step 4: Add afro-textured hair extensions if desired

Once your hair is in afro-puffs, you can begin “bubbling” your hair by tying your hair into ponytail sections every few centimeters until you reach the end of the braid. Depending on how loose your curl/coil pattern is, or the length of your afro, your hair may stand while in the bubble braid pigtails. To have your hair stay down attach afro-textured hair to your natural hair and twist it so the extensions stay in place.

Step 5: develop bubbles in pigtails & add final touches

To develop bubbles with your kinky extension piece, fold the twist in half. Then, use a stand of the kinky hair extension to tie the top part of the extension to the bottom where the two connect once the twist is folded in half. After that, use spare pieces from your kinky hair set to create “bubbles” evenly throughout the new length of each pigtail. You can then add some flare to your look by adding cute clips of your styling choice. Finally, don’t forget to set your look in place with a hairspray such as Dove’s Extra Hold Non-Aerosol Hairspray. Pro Tip: To avoid tangling or knotting afro-textured hair, while creating bubble braid pigtails, avoid using rubber bands. Instead, use extra or spare strands of your extension hair to form the “bubbles.” This can be achieved by wrapping and tucking the extension strand throughout the different sections of the bubble braid pigtail.  Will you be trying out bubble braid pigtails on your afro hair?
